One of my favorite ways to make money as a travel blogger is through affiliate links. But adding all relevant affiliate links to every article can be time-consuming, especially when you have hundreds of posts bringing readers to your website.
That’s where Stay22’s Spark tool comes in. Spark identifies relevant accommodation-related opportunities within your travel content and adds contextual Stay22 affiliate links where appropriate. This helps you make more of your existing content without having to manually find and add every link yourself.
In this guide, I’ll explain what Spark is, how it works, and what travel bloggers should know before using it. This post contains affiliate links. When you make a purchase I may get a small commission at no extra cost to you. Find out more here.
What Is Stay22’s Spark Tool?
Spark is a content monetization tool powered by Stay22. It identifies relevant travel-related opportunities within your blog posts and adds contextual affiliate links to accommodation options and destinations.
It works through the Stay22 script. This means that if the script is already installed on your website, Spark is automatically enabled. You don’t need to install a separate Spark integration or manually add links to every eligible article.
And before you get scared because I mentioned the word script, just know that it’s super easy to install. You can check out my full Stay22 review where I talk about the installation process.
For example, imagine you’ve written a guide to spending three days in Athens. Your article mentions specific hotels, neighborhoods, and areas that make good bases for exploring the city.
You added some affiliate links manually. Spark then can identify additional relevant opportunities within your content and add contextual Stay22 booking links where appropriate.
How Does Spark Work?
Spark works alongside your existing travel content. Here’s how the process works:
- You publish travel content. This can include new articles as well as existing destination guides and other eligible posts.
- Spark identifies relevant opportunities. It looks for travel entities such as named properties, destinations, towns, and neighborhoods that are relevant to accommodation.
- Spark adds contextual links. Where appropriate, it adds Stay22 booking links to relevant opportunities within your content.
- Readers can click and book. Readers can engage with a booking opportunity that fits what they are reading. Behind eligible clicks, Stay22 uses its Allez technology to optimize the supplier, routing, and landing-page experience depending on the context.
Spark is designed to work without rewriting your original content or replacing your existing links. The links it adds follow your website’s existing styling, helping them fit naturally into the reading experience.
I love this because it doesn’t rewrite anything for me. And at the same time, it helps me add links where I might have forgotten to do so manually.
For example, in a blog post about hotels with Tower Bridge views I forgot to link the hotels in the recap section, but the Spark tool did it for me in certain cases, as you can see below.

Does Spark Work Only For New Articles?
No. One of Spark’s main benefits is that it can work across eligible new and old blog posts. You don’t have to wait until you write a new article to benefit from it.
What Types of Blog Posts Can Benefit From Spark?
Here are a few types of content worth considering:
- Destination guides: Articles covering what to do, where to eat, and where to stay in a particular city.
- Itineraries: Travel plans that mention destinations, neighborhoods, or specific properties along the way.
- Accommodation guides: Articles discussing hotels, places to stay, or the best areas to base yourself.
- Regional travel guides: Content covering towns, regions, and destinations that readers may be considering for an overnight stay.
You don’t need to rewrite these articles specifically for Spark. Instead, continue creating useful content for your audience, and let Spark identify relevant opportunities where its links fit.
Do You Need to Change Your Content for Spark?
No. You can continue writing and updating your travel articles as you normally would. Spark is designed to identify relevant linking opportunities within eligible content, so you don’t need to rewrite your posts specifically for the tool.
You can focus on creating helpful travel guides while Spark works through the existing Stay22 script to identify additional opportunities.
Does Spark Replace Your Existing Affiliate Links?
No. Spark is designed to work alongside your existing links, rather than replace them.
If you already use affiliate links in your travel articles, you can continue using your existing affiliate strategy. Spark identifies additional relevant opportunities and adds contextual Stay22 links where appropriate.
Think of it as your smart best friend who finds additional places in your articles to add affiliate links.
For example, in the picture below you can see that I manually added the affiliate links for each hotel I mentioned in my London hotel with Tower Bridge views guide.

Spark is intended to complement your existing linking strategy by identifying other eligible opportunities within your content.
This can be helpful for bloggers who have spent years building an archive of useful travel resources. You can continue using your existing affiliate partnerships while allowing Spark to identify relevant opportunities you may not have linked manually.
Do You Have to Activate Spark?
No. If the Stay22 script is already installed on your website, Spark is automatically enabled. You don’t need to install a separate integration or activate an additional tool.
This is particularly convenient for bloggers who already use Stay22’s monetization products. Rather than introducing another step into your publishing workflow, Spark works through the existing script.
If you’re new to Stay22, you’ll need to follow the appropriate setup process to install its script on your website. Once it’s in place, Spark can identify relevant opportunities within eligible content.
Can you choose exactly where Spark inserts links?
You can manually add affiliate links wherever you want in your articles. Spark works alongside those links by identifying additional relevant opportunities within your content and adding contextual links where appropriate.
Spark handles these placements automatically, so you don’t have to go through every article yourself looking for opportunities you may have missed.
Does Spark guarantee more bookings or affiliate income?
No. Spark can uncover additional relevant affiliate opportunities, but it cannot guarantee that readers will click, make a booking, or generate a commission.
Actual results depend on your content, audience, traffic, and other factors.
Final Thoughts: Is Spark Worth Trying?
Absolutely. You don’t have to install anything else once you have the Stay22 script on your website. And Spark finds additional places to add affiliate links in your content.
I know I definitely miss some affiliate links when I add them manually. I’m only human! So it feels nice to know that Spark finds the opportunities I missed.
