Ravello is one of my favorite little towns on the Amalfi Coast. It has gorgeous villas with breathtaking views of the coast, narrow cobblestone streets, and plenty of restaurants and shops. Tips for staying at a villa in Ravello

• Best times to visit: Aim for May–June or September–October. You’ll get warm weather without the peak-season crowds.
• Getting there: Fly into Naples or Salerno, then take a ferry or transfer. Many villas provide concierge service to help arrange transport.
• Booking advice: Many luxury villas book up early, especially those with swimming pools. Try to secure your stay 8–12 months ahead.
• What to check: Make sure the pool is heated if going early or late season. Ask if there’s parking, direct access, or private terraces since cliffside villas might mean you have to climb stairs. Check for air conditioning, well-equipped kitchens, or additional costs for amenities depending on your priorities.

1. Hotel Villa Cimbrone

Villa Cimbrone Hotel is one of the most iconic places to stay in Ravello. This luxury villa is perched high above the Amalfi Coast. So it has breathtaking views of the Tyrrhenian Sea and Mount Vesuvius in the distance. 

It’s famous for its enchanting gardens and the Terrace of Infinity, which offers one of the most photographed viewpoints along the Amalfi Coast.

Guests love wandering the beautiful property, exploring lemon groves, winding pathways, and hidden corners perfect for complete relaxation.

The rooms are elegant, with double bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms. Many feature French doors opening to private terraces.

There’s air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and a dining area for enjoying breakfast or meals al fresco. The outdoor swimming pool is a peaceful spot to unwind after a day of exploring Ravello. 

It’s right in the heart of Ravello, close to other popular attractions like Villa Rufolo and the Duomo di Ravello. This makes it easy to balance relaxation with sightseeing.

The only downside of staying at Hotel Villa Cimbrone is that many people visit the villa. So you won’t have that privacy you might want from staying at a villa. However, if you’re able to tolerate the crowds, it’s a great place to stay at.

2. Villa Principessa

Villa Principessa combines the charm of a beautiful villa with modern touches. It can be the perfect place for families or groups.

The private terrace has an infinity-edge swimming pool and beautiful terraces with unobstructed sea views. 

Inside, there’s a fully equipped kitchen where a professional chef (available at an additional cost) can prepare authentic local meals, or you can try cooking lessons yourself. 

This elegant villa also offers concierge service for booking boat trips.

The bedrooms here include twin bedrooms and a double bedroom. The vill also has a washing machine for longer stays. Its convenient location means you’re only a 10-minute walk to the heart of Ravello. 

You are also close to a grocery store, and you’ll have easy access to the bus stop for day trips on the Coast. 

With options like baby sitting, concierge-arranged boat trips, and even late check-out, this villa offers comfort and flexibility for a relaxing holiday.

3. Lo Sguardo sul Mare

Lo Sguardo sul Mare lives up to its name with wide-open views across Minori and the Amalfi coastline.

The outdoor area has a private pool. There is also a garden full of Mediterranean plants and shaded terraces. Imagine enjoying dinner with a sea breeze here. Such a dream!

Inside, the villa is bright and comfortable. It has a dining room, living space, and a sofa bed that’s convenient if you have kids or friends joining you.

The location works well for sightseeing too. You can easily reach the Duomo di Ravello, Villa Rufolo, and Minori Beach. 

This mix of accessibility and quiet makes it appealing whether you’re coming for a festival or a summer holiday.

4. Sea View Villa with Lemon Pergola & Jacuzzi

Sea View Villa feels like the Amalfi Coast you’ve seen on postcards. The highlight is its lemon-covered pergola. There’s also a private jacuzzi for unwinding after a day of sightseeing.

The design is fresh and inviting, with bright tiled floors and large windows that keep the spaces airy. Each bedroom has ensuite bathrooms, giving everyone their own private space.

French doors open to terraces that make it easy to enjoy those views from morning to night.

It’s a fantastic pick for honeymoons or anyone looking for a mix of comfort and privacy while still being close to Ravello’s center.

5. Villa Porta Donica

Villa Porta Donica is full of character thanks to its 11th-century tower and historic architecture. It offers a private pool and terraced gardens shaded by lemon trees.

Inside, you’ll find modern comforts without losing that old-world charm. The villa also stands out because it’s pet-friendly. This is rare in the area, so you can bring your four-legged family members along.

Its location feels tucked away, yet you’re only a short stroll into Ravello for restaurants and shops. Porta Donica works equally well for couples who want a romantic base or families who need space and privacy.

6. Ravello Seafront Villa (SopranoVillas)

Ravello Seafront Villa offers a perfect mix of privacy and accessibility. The heated pool is a major bonus if you’re visiting in spring or fall.

There are multiple terraces and gardens where you can relax outdoors. Inside, the bedrooms are bright and modern with ensuite bathrooms, so everyone has their own retreat after a day out.

The villa has a concierge service to make your stay even smoother. They can arrange anything from private chefs to boat tours along the coast.

It’s close to both Minori Beach and Ravello, so you can enjoy both the sea and the hills without long drives.

It’s a versatile choice for families, groups, or couples who want hotel-level service with the comforts of a private villa.

7. Palazzo Avino (Belvedere Suite)

Palazzo Avino is one of Ravello’s most famous luxury hotels, but the Belvedere Suite feels more like a private villa. It comes with its own plunge pool, expansive terraces, and access to the hotel’s fine dining and spa.

Inside, you’ll find an elegant living space with all the five-star touches you’d expect. Because it’s part of a hotel, you get daily housekeeping, concierge help, and access to a private beach club.

But you still enjoy the privacy of your own suite. It’s ideal for a special occasion trip, offering romance and incredible views of Ravello.

8. Villa Casarossa Numero Uno 6

Villa Casarossa Numero Uno 6 is a great budget option. You can find some cheaper options and still stay somewhere beautiful in Ravello.

The villa has a seasonal private pool and a sunny terrace overlooking the coast. It’s simple and charming rather than flashy, but it has everything you need for a relaxing stay.

It is a 3 bedrom 4 bathrooms villa. A sofa bed makes it flexible for different group sizes.

The location is practical too. You’re close to Ravello’s center and also within reach of Minori and Vietri sul Mare. It’s an affordable option without giving up those classic Amalfi views.

9. Adagio Ravello

Adagio Ravello is one of the newest villas in town. It has open, light-filled interiors, stylish bedrooms, and plenty of space for entertaining.

Large glass doors open onto terraces where you can watch the sea. The villa has a well-equipped kitchen so you can prepare your own meals if you want to stay in.

The villa has a rooftop pool that offers great views and is surrounded by greenery.

It also has air conditioning and Wi-Fi. Because it’s new, the furnishings and finishes feel up-to-date, and guests appreciate the warm, helpful hosts. It’s perfect if you prefer a contemporary space over Ravello’s more historic villas.

10. Villa La Rondinaia

Villa La Rondinaia is an impressive 6 bedroom 7 bathrooms villa. It is one of the most dramatic properties on the Amalfi Coast. Once home to author Gore Vidal, it’s perched on a cliff with incredible views.

The villa has a cobalt-blue pool set among terraced gardens. The interiors are just as impressive, with multiple suites, a library, and salons decorated with art.

If you want a once-in-a-lifetime place to stay in Ravello, La Rondinaia is hard to top.

What should I do in Ravello?

Visit Villa Cimbrone

Ravello is the town of villas and Villa Cimbrone is the most famous and popular one. It is located about 15 minutes by foot from the main plaza in Ravello where buses drop you off.

You’ll have to climb some stairs to get to Villa Cimbrone, but it’s a short walk and not too strenuous.

You can buy your ticket at the ticket office once you get there. It costs 10 euros. They accept both cash and cards as methods of payment. The wait time to buy the ticket when I was there was less than 5 minutes.

Villa Cimbrone is famous for its beautiful gardens and its infinity terrace, or Terrazza dell’Infinito in Italian. This terrace is at the top of the hill and it overlooks the sea and the coast. The views from up there are truly impressive.

Throughout the terrace you can find many statues and some balconies where you can take pictures. Even though there are many people visiting, everyone is patient and lets you take pictures without photobombing you. I loved this.

Villa Cimbrone is large, so plan to spend 1-2 hours here to explore everything.

Have lunch in the main piazza

After exploring Villa Cimbrone you can go down to the main piazza to have lunch at one of the many cafes there. I suggest you order their paninis and skip the pizza. 

The paninis were delicious. The bread was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside and all ingredients were very fresh and tasty.

The pizza was a little too doughy for my taste. There are much better pizzas in Italy, so my suggestion is to skip it in Ravello.

Explore the Duomo

Also in the main piazza you can find the Duomo of Ravello. It’s an old Catholic church that was built in 1086. You can also visit the museum and the crypt there.

Visit Villa Rufolo

Across from the Duomo you can find the famous Villa Rufolo. This villa dates from the 13th century and it was remodeled in the 19th century.

It originally belonged to the rich Rufolo family and then it had multiple other owners along the years.

A ticket costs 8 euros and you can buy it at their ticket office. Even though it is located at a lower level than Villa Cimbrone, it still offers plenty of incredible views of the Amalfi Coast.

Some rooms also have balconies that you can open and take pictures with the views.

​When I was there they were building a stage that will be used for concerts during the summer. If you’re there when they start offering these concerts I think it could be a very special activity.

​I think it’s worth visiting both villas while in Ravello since they have different vibes and you can enjoy gorgeous views from different heights and points of view.

FAQs about Ravello

How can I get to Ravello from the town of Amalfi?

The easiest way to get to Ravello from Amalfi is to take the bus. It costs 1.5 euros each way and you can get to Ravello in about 30 minutes.

You can also take a taxi, but the prices are very steep, around 100 euros.

Which airport should I fly into if I want to visit Ravello?

The closest international airport to all towns on the Amalfi Coast is the Naples International Airport. From there you can take Alibus to the Naples train station (called Napoli Centrale).

And from the train station you can take a train to Salerno (it takes about 40 minutes to get to Salerno from Naples). 

Salerno is the main hub for visiting the Amalfi Coast. From Salerno you can take buses to other towns or you can sail the coast.

How to get cell phone data when visiting from abroad?

The cheapest and most convenient way to get data while visiting from abroad is to buy an eSIM. An eSIM is a digital SIM that lets you activate a data plan from a provider without having to use a physical SIM card. They are super easy to use.

I use Airalo. You can go to their website, select the country you’re traveling to, select how many GB of data you want, and how many days you want the eSIM to be active for. After you pay you will receive a confirmation email with instructions on how to activate the eSIM.

You can activate it on your phone and the process takes under 1 minute. Once the eSIM is activated you don’t have to do anything else. When you’re at your destination you will automatically get data.

How many days should I spend in Ravello?

I think one day is enough in Ravello. You’ll have time to visit the 2 villas, the Duomo, and have lunch without feeling rushed.

Do I need cash for Ravello?

Most places accept cards, but it’s always recommended to carry some cash with you so you can tip tour guides or buy souvenirs from small mom-and-pop shops who prefer cash.

Pro tip: always get cash from an ATM instead of going to an exchange place. Your bank will always have better exchange rates when taking out cash in a foreign currency from an ATM.
