However, it can be overwhelming to pick a place to stay on the island. In this blog post I will share my recommendations for where to stay in Capri to help you plan a fantastic trip here. Joining a sailing trip
When I visited the island of Capri, I didn’t stay in an actual hotel. This is because I took a sailing trip around the Amalfi Coast and Capri was one of our stops.
I always wanted to experience going on a sailing trip and deep down I wasn´t sure if I was going to like it. But you know what? I loved it so much!
Sailing every day and spending the nights on a boat creates a strong bond with everyone else on that trip.
We still talk on our WhatsApp group regularly because we became friends on this trip. If you want to experience solo travel but are not ready to go fully by yourself yet, a group trip is the best option.

Why visiting the Amalfi Coast on a sailing trip is the best
That’s because you can visit multiple towns and explore their main attractions in a short amount of time.
At the same time, you can admire the spectacular views of the picturesque villages from the water. This is something you can’t easily do if you just visit the towns by land.
And, most importantly, you don’t have to drag your luggage up hundreds of stairs every time you go to a new town.
Where to stay in Capri if you’re not sleeping on a boat
The island of Capri is home to two main towns: Capri and Anacapri. Capri is centered around the iconic Piazzetta, Capri’s main square, while Anacapri is a smaller town set higher up on the slopes of Monte Solaro.
There’s also Marina Grande, the island’s port and main arrival point for visitors.
While some travelers explore Capri during a day trip like I did, many choose to stay on the island for a night or two.
Capri offers a wide range of exceptional accommodation options, from elegant boutique hotels with sea views to peaceful hillside villas tucked away in Anacapri.
Choosing where to stay depends on the experience you’re looking for. Capri town is more cosmopolitan and lively, full of luxury boutiques, vibrant cafés, and the famous Piazzetta, where locals and visitors mingle.
Anacapri, on the other hand, offers a quieter, more intimate feel, with fewer crowds. On this side of the island, you will also have an easy access to attractions. The Blue Grotto, the Mount Solaro chairlift, and the Punta Carena lighthouse are all here.
No matter where you stay, it’s easy to move around: buses connect Capri and Anacapri every 15 minutes, and it’s a short time ride of about 10 minutes between the two towns.

Hotel Caesar Augustus
Hotel Caesar Augustus, one of the luxury hotels on the island, is perched on a cliff in Anacapri. It is considered to provide some of the most stunning views of any hotel in Europe, if not globally.
From here, you can enjoy breathtaking views of Marina Piccola, the Bay of Naples, and the Faraglioni.
The hotel is located in the center of Anacapri, just a 5-minute walk from Anacapri’s main square.
This 5-star hotel has 49 rooms and 6 suites, featuring elegant décor and antiques. Many of the rooms offer private terraces and hot tub with window views. The infinity pool and cliffside gardens are major highlights, overlooking the sea.
There is also an outdoor wellness area offering a wide variety of luxurious face and body treatments performed by expert beauty and massage therapists.
The hotel’s restaurant, La Terrazza di Lucullo, serves gourmet Mediterranean cuisine prepared with ingredients from the hotel’s own garden.
It is the ideal for couples and adults since children under 10 are not allowed to stay at the hotel due to the unique cliffside location.
Room prices vary. Entry-level rooms tend to be smaller and may lack sea views or balconies. Some suites offer views over Marina Piccola and the famous Faraglioni rocks.
Service is generally excellent, though some reviews mention occasional inconsistencies with transfers and soundproofing.
Overall, it’s a peaceful and romantic getaway, away from the crowds of Capri town, making it a perfect choice for guests seeking luxury and serenity.
Hotel Mamela
Hotel Mamela is a 4-star hotel located in the town of Capri. It is in a good location, just 150 meters / a few feet away from the shops on Via Camerelle. The closest beach is Marina Piccola, which is a 10-minute drive away.
The hotel is very beautiful and it is characterized by the island’s unique architectural elements, with arches, domes, stucco, and marble.
The hotel also has a sun terrace with an outdoor pool which is equipped with free sun beds and umbrellas. The pool offers amazing views and they also provide you with free pool towels.
Above the swimming pool area there’s an on-site restaurant serving Italian and Caprese specialties.
You can enjoy freshly prepared dishes made with high-quality local ingredients. You can dine either at the charming a la carte restaurant or by the poolside bar.
While the hotel does not provide full room service for lunch or dinner, limited room service is available during certain hours. Overall, the hotel’s dining options provide a relaxing and enjoyable experience without having to leave the property.
Each room at Hotel Mamela has tiled floors and bright, individually decorated furniture. All rooms include air conditioning and a flat-screen TV.
Some hotel rooms also have views of the Mediterranean Sea. The bathrooms are spacious and luxurious. In my opinion, they are one of the best features of the hotel.
Each bathroom comes with large windows, mosaic tiles, and either a bathtub or shower.
This hotel is an excellent choice if you want to combine modern amenities with being right in the center of Capri.
Grand Hotel Quisisana
Hotel Quisisana is a great hotel that features a garden, two swimming pools and a gym. It is located very close to the town center.
It also offers a sun terrace and free Wi-Fi. A sauna, hammam area, and wellness center are also available on site.
It is located a short distance from the island’s main port, Marina Grande. La Piazzetta, Capri’s most famous square, is just a 5-minute walk away.
The hotel has approximately 150 rooms. Each room includes a satellite TV and a private bathroom with free toiletries. Some rooms overlook the garden, while others offer views of the pool.
You can enjoy traditional cuisine at the on-site restaurant and drinks at the bar. Breakfast is served daily and includes hot beverages, croissants, and cold cuts.
I believe this 5-star hotel is the best place if you want to enjoy a full spa relaxation experience in the heart of Capri. There’s also a higher chance of finding a room during the summer season due to the large number of available rooms.
However, keep in mind that availability is very limited during the summer months. Prices tend to be much higher than usual, just like in most of the hotels in the area.
Hotel La Minerva
Hotel La Minerva is a small boutique hotel located in the heart of Capri town. It is just a short walk away from the famous Piazzetta Square and features about 25 rooms.
The hotel is beautifully designed, with elegant and bright rooms that showcase colorful tiled floors.
Many rooms have private terraces offering stunning views of the Tyrrhenian Sea. This is the perfect spot to relax and also enjoy the island’s natural beauty.
Due to its intimate size and limited number of rooms, availability can be quite limited, especially during the peak season when Capri attracts many visitors. However, this also means a more personalized and peaceful stay compared to larger hotels.
If you’re looking for a boutique hotel that combines charm with convenience, Hotel La Minerva is the perfect choice for you.
Hotel La Floridiana
Hotel La Floridiana captures the authentic charm of Capri. It has cozy, island-style rooms. One of its standout features is the stunning outdoor pool. It is nestled right next to a natural rock formation.
The hotel enjoys a fantastic location, just a 3-minute walk from the famous Via Camerelle. It also offers breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea from many balconies and terraces.
Guests can start their day with a breakfast buffet on the terrace, and unwind later at the elegant wine bar.
The hotel has free Wi-Fi throughout and a friendly, multilingual staff. Thus, La Floridiana provides a welcoming and authentic Capri experience.
Hotel San Michele
Located in Anacapri, Hotel San Michele offers sweeping views over the Bay of Naples and a relaxed, easygoing vibe. Its large pool and the lovely terrace are some of the best hotel features.
Rooms are simple and comfortable, with air conditioning, a minibar, and balconies with sea views.
While the decor may feel a bit old-fashioned to some, many guests find it adds to the hotel’s retro charm. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.
The hotel features both a restaurant and a bar, each with beautiful panoramic views.
If you’re around in the evening, don’t miss the live music at La Lanterna Verde. This is the kind of warm, relaxed vibe that makes you want to stay a little longer. There’s no spa, but the peaceful setting and views make it easy to unwind.
A free shuttle to and from Marina Grande is available on request, and buses to Capri town and the Piazzetta stop right outside the hotel.
Capri Wine Hotel
Capri Wine Hotel is a small and welcoming hotel located just a 10-minute walk from Capri’s famous Piazzetta. It has a lovely terrace overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea.
It also has a peaceful garden filled with flowers, herbs, and organic fruit and vegetables. The hotel uses these ingredients at breakfast.
The rooms are clean, cozy, and decorated in soft, elegant colors. While the furniture may feel a little less modern, the rooms are comfortable and full of charm.
Bathrooms, on the other hand, look newly renovated and feel fresh and contemporary.
Guests love the relaxed atmosphere, the friendly owners, and the on-site wine bar. The pool area is also a highlight, with warm wooden deck.
The hotel is just a 5-minute drive from Marina Grande port and about 2 km from Marina Piccola beach. Restaurants and cafés are just steps away.
J.K. Place Capri
J.K. Place Capri is one of the island’s most elegant hotels. It offers a timeless sense of luxury just steps away from Marina Grande.
Set on a cliff with panoramic views of the Bay of Naples, the hotel feels like a peaceful retreat far from the busy crowds.
The outdoor pool is stunning, while the surrounding terraces and gardens are beautifully maintained.
The interiors blend classic Mediterranean style with touches that recall Roman times. For example, they have arched windows, fine materials, and soft, earthy tones.
Rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated with views of either the sea or the lush garden. The atmosphere throughout is refined and serene.
The JKitchen Restaurant serves seasonal Mediterranean dishes made with local ingredients. You can dine indoors or on the panoramic terrace.
Guests also have access to a wellness area, a Turkish bath, and a tennis court. It’s the kind of place where elegance meets peace effortlessly.
Hotel Villa Ceselle
Villa Ceselle is a good choice for travelers who want to stay in Anacapri without spending a fortune. It’s not a luxury hotel.
So it doesn’t have a pool or dramatic views from the restaurant. But it offers everything you truly need for a comfortable and pleasant stay.
The hotel is located just outside the center of Anacapri, in a peaceful area that’s still within walking distance from Piazza Caprile.
Rooms are spacious and bright, with vaulted ceilings, elegant touches, and large bathrooms with quality toiletries.
One of its best advantages is its proximity to the Monte Solaro chairlift, which takes you to the highest point on the island with breathtaking views.
Villa Ceselle is a solid and affordable option. It may not have the luxury of other hotels, but it delivers great value that won’t disappoint.
La Reginella Capri
La Reginella Capri is a charming, family-run hotel. It is located on a peaceful hillside above Capri town, close to the Arco Naturale.
It’s about a 10-minute walk (mostly pedestrian paths) from the busy Piazzetta. So you’re close to the action but still surrounded by greenery and quiet.
The hotel doesn’t have a pool or luxury amenities. But it’s known for its warmth, cleanliness, and calm atmosphere.
The rooms are comfortable and modern. Some come with a furnished terrace or patio offering lovely views over Marina Piccola.
Breakfast is served daily on the outdoor terrace during summer. Many guests say it’s one of the best things about their stay.
If you’re traveling light and prefer simple, authentic places that feel like home, La Reginella is a great value option. You can even request luggage transport from the Piazzetta if you don’t want to carry your bags up the hill.
