Prague is a very beautiful city in Europe, but deciding where to stay can feel overwhelming. Each part of Prague has a completely different vibe, from the fairytale streets of the Old Town to the quieter, more romantic atmosphere of Malá Strana.

For first-time visitors, I recommend staying in one of the central areas so you can walk to most of the main attractions. Prague is very walkable, and staying in the right area makes the entire experience much more magical.

Old Town Square (Staré Město): best area for first-time visitors

If it’s your first time in Prague, then the historic Old Town is my top recommendation.

The Old Town is the heart of Prague and the area most people picture when they think about the city: colorful buildings, cobblestone streets, astronomical clock towers, historic churches, and lively squares full of restaurants and cafes.

Staying here means you’ll be within walking distance of major attractions like the Charles Bridge, Old Town Square, the Prague Astronomical Clock, the Infinity Book Tower, and the Jewish Quarter.

The biggest advantage is convenience. You can wake up early and explore before the crowds arrive, which makes a huge difference in Prague.

The only downside is that it’s the busiest and most touristy part of the city, so expect crowds and slightly higher hotel prices.

Hotel Kings Court is a beautiful luxury hotel located right on Republic Square, only a short walk from the Old Town Square.

It has beautiful rooms, a wellness center with an indoor pool, sauna, and spa treatments. If you want a classic luxury hotel in a very central location, then this is a fantastic choice.

Another big advantage is that it’s close to the Municipal House and the famous Powder Tower, while still being a little quieter than staying directly inside Old Town Square itself.

Hotel Residence Agnes

Hotel Residence Agnes is one of the highest-rated hotels in Prague, and people absolutely rave about the service.

The hotel has a cozy boutique feel and is located on a quieter street in the Old Town, while still being walking distance from all major attractions.

If you want a smaller hotel with a more personal atmosphere instead of a large luxury property, this is the best option in the historic center.

Malá Strana (Lesser Town): most romantic area in Prague

Mala Strana is the most charming and romantic neighborhood in Prague.

Located right below Prague Castle and on the other side of the Charles Bridge, this area feels quieter and more local compared to the busy Old Town. It’s full of baroque buildings, hidden courtyards, cute cafes, embassies, and scenic streets.

This was actually my favorite area to walk around in Prague.

You’ll still be close to major attractions like Prague Castle, beer spas, the Lennon Wall, and the Charles Bridge, but the atmosphere feels calmer and more relaxed.

It’s perfect for couples, slower-paced trips, and travelers who want a more picturesque and peaceful stay.

Hotel Pod Věží

Hotel Pod Věží is located literally next to the Charles Bridge, making it one of the best-located hotels in Prague.

The hotel combines historic charm with modern comfort, and some rooms even have views of the bridge towers.

One of the best things about staying here is being able to walk to the Charles Bridge very early in the morning before the crowds arrive. It’s the ideal place if you prefer proximity to top attractions.

Augustine is one of the most luxurious hotels in Prague and is built inside a former monastery complex. So cool!

The hotel has stunning architecture, peaceful gardens, spacious rooms, and a very tranquil atmosphere that fits perfectly with the vibe of Malá Strana.

If you want a unique luxury stay in a prime location, then this is one of the best hotels in Prague.

Prague New Town (Nové Město): best area for nightlife and modern hotels

Despite its name, New Town is still very historic. It’s just “new” compared to the Old Town.

This area is a great choice if you want a more modern atmosphere, larger hotels, better prices, nightlife, shopping, and excellent public transportation connections.

You’ll still be close to the Old Town, but accommodation here is often more affordable and spacious. You have easy access to the historical center by tram, metro, or buses.

The New Town is also home to many trendy cafes, cocktail bars, restaurants, and shopping streets.

Numa Prague Libusa

Numa Prague Libusa is a stylish modern aparthotel located in New Town, in a more residential area. I stayed here during my trip to Prague and honestly loved the experience.

This is a fully digital hotel, meaning there is no traditional front desk or staff on-site. Everything is done online through the app, including check-in and check-out.

I received the building entrance code and my room code on the day of check-in and the entire process was super smooth and easy.

My experience at Numa Prague Libusa

I was pleasantly surprised that the apartment looked exactly like the photos online, which doesn’t always happen these days.

The room had everything I needed for a comfortable stay: towels, toiletries, water, tea, a coffee machine with pods, an iron, a hair dryer, and even yoga mats in the closet with the cute title “Numaste” (a play on words between Numa and namaste).

There’s no restaurant on-site, but I actually liked that because Prague has so many great cafes and restaurants to try.

Plus, there’s a Kolacherie bakery a short walk away, which quickly became one of my favorite breakfast spots in the city. Their blueberry cream cheese and pistachio raspberry kolaches were incredible.

Another thing I appreciated was that they stocked extra supplies like toilet paper and coffee pods in the laundry room downstairs, so you could easily grab whatever you needed.

One thing to know in advance is that they don’t clean the rooms daily. Housekeeping is included only once per week, so if you stay for a shorter trip and want additional cleaning you’ll need to pay extra. Personally, this didn’t bother me at all.

The location was also really convenient. There was a tram stop only a few minutes away, and from there I could get to the Old Town in around 10 minutes and Prague Castle in about 15-20 minutes.

You can also walk to Prague’s Old Town in roughly 20-25 minutes if you enjoy exploring cities on foot like I do.
