Overall recommendation
I loved visiting Penang’s Rainbow Skywalk! It was one of my favorite activities on the island.
If you don’t have a fear of heights and you love great views of the places you’re visiting, then this is a must-visit destination. Especially if it’s your first time in Penang.
Where is the Rainbow Skywalk in Penang?
Rainbow Skywalk is located at The TOP, the tallest building in Georgetown. The TOP is a skyscraper that houses the largest indoor theme park with 18 different attractions.
Besides the Rainbow Skywalk observation deck they also have the Jurassic Research Center that has over 200 dinosaurs as part of an interactive activity, an aquarium, Zombie Outbreak, a magic mirror maze, toboggans, and so many other things.
Besides all these themed attractions, on the ground floor you can also find claw machines that reminded me of the ones you see in Japan.

What can you do at the Rainbow Skywalk in Penang?
65th floor experience
The first stop of the Rainbow Skywalk experience is on the 65th floor. There you can walk on a transparent glass walkway indoors and admire an amazing panoramic view of the city.
You have to take off your shoes when walking on the transparent glass floor. When you take that first step you’ll experience a unique visual shock.

Part of you knows that it’s safe to do it, but the other part of you starts panicking and thinking you will fall. All people who were there when I was visiting were let out a little scream while taking that first step.
Then the friendly staff will take you to a room where they project a short video about The TOP’s history. It’s a great way to learn more about the building and the history of the city.
68th floor experience
Then you’ll take the elevator to go to the 68th floor where they have an outdoor space. This is where you can find the open-air Rainbow Skywalk, which is basically a balcony with transparent glass floors. The design of the walkway is unique as it’s basically a horseshoe-shaped cantilever bridge.

To go on this walkway you first need to put on some shoe covers. Then you can enjoy incredible views of Penang’s city skyline, Penang Hill, Penang Bridge, and the water.
When I visited there weren’t that many people, so I was able to truly enjoy this place and take as many pictures as I wanted with a panoramic view of George Town.

They also have a water fountain called “Pot of Gold”. The fountain has a bell in the middle. Legend says that if you make a wish, hit the bell with a coin and you can hear the bell ring your wish will come true. I totally did this and it was a lot of fun!

You can also dine here at the Top View Restaurant. I chose not to do this since there are so many great dining options in Penang.
How was your experience there?
I had a memorable experience there. I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie and doing things at high altitude (I also went to ADAM’s lookout, the highest swing in Europe in Amsterdam), so I loved the transparent floor.
I loved watching the beautiful scenery and the panoramic views of George Town from the tallest skyscraper in Penang. If you are a photography enthusiast then this is also the perfect place for some really cool shots that will definitely be a unique souvenir from your trip to the iconic destination that is Penang.
How can I buy tickets?
I bought my ticket from the ticket office on-site. You’ll find it on the 6th floor. From street level you have to take an elevator to the 6th floor to get to the ticket office.
Alternatively, you can also book your ticket online in advance.

What is the best time to visit?
I went there around 11am and there were only a handful of people visiting at the same time. So I don’t think you need to go early in the morning to be able to enjoy this attraction.
That being said, it was very hot when I visited. So you might want to go earlier in the day to avoid the hot and humid weather.
