I stayed at Hotel NH Palacio de Tepa Madrid in the city center during my recent solo trip to Madrid. Even though the hotel is part of the NH chain, it is a boutique hotel with only 4 floors and a charming view of the Las Letras neighborhood. It’s a 5 star hotel and the service was outstanding. I wanted to share this review summary of the Hotel NH Collection Palacio de Tepa Madrid because I loved my stay here. This post contains affiliate links. Location of Hotel NH Collection Madrid Palacio de Tepa
The hotel has a central location in the charming neighborhood of Barrio de las Letras, about a 7-minute walk to Plaza Mayor. If you stay here, you will be able to walk to most tourist attractions, including Teatro Real, The Royal Palace (Palacio Real), and Prado Museum (Museo del Prado).
The hotel is very close to Plaza Santa Ana, a cute plaza with a lot of restaurants and cafes. There are plenty of dining options nearby where you can get dinner, tapas, or just a drink to cap a night of exploring the Spanish capital city. I recommend you try the following restaurants in Plaza de Santa Ana: Vi cool, Tapa Tapa Santa Ana, and Taberna el Sur de Huertas.
How to get to the hotel from Adolfo Suarez Madrid–Barajas Airport
Train
You can take the RENFE train from terminal T4. If you land at other terminals you can take a free shuttle bus to take you to T4 to catch the train. A round trip costs 5.2 euros. There are trains leaving T4 every 15 minutes. The trains do not operate during the night though. If you take the train you should get to Atocha Train Station in about 30 minutes. From Atocha Train Station you can walk about 20 minutes to get to the hotel, take an uber, or take the metro to Antón Martín and then walk to the hotel.
Bus
You can take Bus Line 203 which will take you to Atocha Train Station in about 45 minutes. Follow the “Airport Express Aeropuerto” sign to get to the two bus stops located at the Departures and Arrivals levels of T1 and T2, as well as the on the ground level of T4. Buses run 24/7. Bus tickets cost 5 euros and you can buy them on the bus using either cash or a credit card.
Metro
Taking the metro is a bit more complicated. From the airport you can take the Pink Metro Line 8. However, you will have to switch to Metro Line 10 or Metro Line 1 at Nuevos Ministerios Station. There are two airport subway stations, one at T4 and another one on the first floor of T2 which serves T1, T2, and T3. A ticket costs around 5 euros.
Taxi / uber
This is a more convenient option compared to public transportation since it leaves you right in front of the hotel. Taxis have a flat fee of 30 euros. Ubers are a bit cheaper. Alternatively you can also schedule a private transfer.
Room review of the Hotel NH Palacio de Tepa Madrid
The rooms are designed in a modern style with hardwood floors even though the building of the hotel is a palace built in the 19th century. I stayed in a room on the top floor with views of the inner courtyard. The room was small, probably 15 square meters (150 square feet) or so. There wasn’t a lot of space to move around the room. However, I personally like cozy rooms like this. Maybe it’s because I’ve lived in NYC for so long and I’m used to not having a lot of space. If you want to have a lot of space, maybe go for junior suites instead of a regular room.
All rooms have private bathrooms with all the amenities you would expect from 5 stars hotels. They also offered complimentary wireless internet access. I visited in October and it was pretty cold at night, but their air conditioning system could be set to heat the room and the temperature of the room was perfect.
Additional amenities included a coffee machine, free water bottles, room service, and recreation amenities, such as their spa facilities. I didn’t use the hotel’s wellness center, but you could get onsite massages or a beauty treatment.
The hotel also had meeting rooms that would be used for business or other events such as a high school reunion.
Breakfast at the Hotel NH Palacio de Tepa Madrid
The breakfast was so good! They offer plenty of options every morning for all tastes. I usually went with yogurt with all the fixings, fresh fruit (papaya, watermelon, grapes, honeydew, cantaloupe), fruit juice, and coffee. They also had cold cuts, cheese, bakery items, in addition to making your eggs in any way you desired.
If you have the American Express Platinum credit card and book this hotel through their travel portal you get $200 off on the booking price, and $100 credit to use in any way you like at the hotel. I used this credit for breakfast. All you have to do is to let the front desk that you plan on using the Amex credit for breakfast and you’re all set. You can also benefit from a late check-out time with the Amex card.
Service at the Hotel NH Palacio de Tepa Madrid
The service was 100/10 at this hotel. The front desk employees were very nice and they gave me plenty of information about the hotel and Madrid during check-in. They told me to reach out anytime if I needed additional information.
They brought me some brownies to my room since I visited Madrid around my birthday. I thought this was such a sweet gesture! You could tell that making sure their hotel guests have the best time is Hotel NH Palacio de Tepa Madrid’s highest priority. I highly recommend this hotel if you’re planning on visiting Madrid.
